Bill of Materials for Motor Circuit

1ea Motor

The best motor is a cordless screwdriver. Even the smaller ones have enough power to raise the door, especially if you have good door slides. The adjustable slip clutch will protect the motor if something goes wrong. The friction in the gear train will prevent the door from dropping down when it is opened and power is removed from the motor.

I have seen new cordless screwdrivers big enough for this application for $10 at Home Depot (it was a special sale). I use an old Makita 6095D, which is bigger than needed, but I had one available.

To be continued.
